Turkish Granny Square Top
Every year I say I want to make more crochet clothing, but some giant creature (Armadillo, Spider, Chicken . . .) always takes priority. This year I knew I had to start making progress towards that goal, and I am happy to report that I DID IT!
As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I came upon a post by @littleappleyork showing off this gorgeous design. I admit that I stalked her feed until she posted that the pattern was available, and I purchased it right away. I knew I wanted to draw from my own hand-dyed #fridaynightfibers stash, and I wanted to match her colors as closely as possible. I settled on Champagne for the main color and Blue Curacao for the accent.
The pattern calls for DK weight, but I went with fingering as I wanted something very light and airy.
What I liked most about the pattern is that the square was complex and interesting. Detailed videos are provided for some of the more intricate rounds, and I found those invaluable. Since it only required 12 squares total, it worked up fairly quickly.
What really impressed me was the construction method. In fact, I had a "Why didn't I think of that?" moment when I saw it. If you're new to making garments, the approach is quite clever.
Here are a few more pictures to tease you. Look at the detail on the edges. Swoon!
I think it will be fun to make this into a longer vest or coat. Hmmm . . . off to yarn shop ...
