Sassy Granny Bags
One of my favorite things to make is bags. No matter how many times I try to make other things, I always come back to making bags. There’s something about the smaller size that allows me to feel freer to experiment with colors and techniques.
I made a sassy granny jacket a while back, and I decided it needed a bag to go with it. I Love the African Granny Square pattern, so I knew that’s where I wanted to start. From there it was just a matter of selecting colors. I wanted something a bit moody and retro, so I selected from my vast stash of Hayfield Bonus DK. For the stash, I had some Spun Cloud handspun yarn with a bit of sparkle that I knew would be perfect. (See Materials List for Links)
I also knew I wanted to take this time to try out an idea I had for the purse lining. I always line my purses and include pockets, but I wanted to try and ensure the sides were stiffer than what I usually achieve with crocheted bags. I’m pleased with the results but want to play a bit more before I share fully.
Finally, I wanted to crochet my handles. While I like the look of some of the premade handles, I just prefer to keep everything handmade. I found a method that I tweaked a bit and am very happy with the results.
I ended up with a few leftover granny squares, so I made a couple of small shoulder bags. These are so fun with the added fringe and only use three granny square each.
What do you think? Would you like to learn how to make the handles and the lining?
